Many guitarists don’t read standard music notation—it’s just not a big part of guitar culture (compared to, say, piano culture).  Still, guitarists can really benefit from time spent learning to read and play from standard notation.  Learning to read is not as difficult as many guitarists seem to think. It is possible to learn to read at a high level on the guitar, and it’s important to recognize that it doesn’t take hours a day to learn to read competently. In this lesson, guitarist Sean McGowan has created a 30-minute workout that can help you isolate the basic fundamentals of reading music, including the ability to recognize the pitches and rhythms of printed music and simultaneously locate and articulate the correct pitches on the fretboard.
